History

Myron's parents were Soporati art dealers, which lead to being raised around a deep understanding and appreciation of art. In his youth, he wanted to grow up to be a painter, but as soon as he showed signs of magic he was pushed away from that path at the encouragement of his parents.

As he studied in the Circle of Minrathous, he met and became close with a fellow Laetan around his age, Luc(ia) De Vitis, who would become a spirit healer. Their friendship eventually grew into something more that culminated into a conversation where Luc said "I'm not a girl," to which Myron said "That's fine, I'm not straight," and from that point on they were happily in love with one another. For appearances sake due to the culture surrounding mages and breeding, they posed as a perfectly content straight couple and would go on to have two children together. The only ones that knew the true nature of their relationship happened to be their children and a small handful of fellow queer people they were on amiable terms with.

Becoming particularly taken with the history of how the Imperium came to be and how the ancient elves taught humans magic, Myron devoted his studies over the long term to Elvenhan history, language, and culture. This focus lead him to be recruited by the Venatori - which initially he had no interest in joining but Myron was touched by Calpernia's ideal vision for Tevinter's future and accepted. Through this affiliation, Myron becomes acquainted with Aurelias Artemaeus and briefly tutors his son Benedict Artemaeus for a time.

Luc, disagreeing with his decision to join the Venatori, attempted to reason with Myron and convince him not to be a part of the organization. Myron did not listen, and unfortunately they separated with Luc going to join the Tevinter Resistance. Years pass with the two of them on opposite sides of Corypheus' fight, until Luc dies. Having never stopped loving his husband, Myron was heartbroken and enraged at Luc's death, and resolved to leave the Venatori and put an end to Corypheus by whatever means possible. Knowing that he could not just run and disappear suddenly, he began making plans to defect when he is approached by Antosha regarding Tsenka, a dreamer mage, about arranging an escape together.

Together, they conceive a plan to use the advancing Tevinter forces to get as close as they can to Kirkwall without arising suspicion. Myron invents some excuse about mentions of a hidden ruin in the Free Marches that may have something of interest to the cause that he needs to go personally investigate, so that he has a plausible reason to leave Minrathous. He smuggles Tsenka out with him, and from a Venatori camp near Starkhaven they make a run for it. They are pursued, and just when they think they might be in the clear, they are surrounded! Not far off from Kirkwall, there's hope it might just be their lucky day...

Personality

From a young age, he was raised to have a keen eye and to look for context beyond what can easily be read at a glance. When his life moved away from being focused on art and being more involved in magic and, by relation, politics, this skill proved to be a vital part of his upbringing. However the downside of this is that he's almost constantly scrutinizing the actions and intentions of those around him. He's not distrustful or suspicious necessarily, but he is very critical which in return means he can come off as a snob or an asshole.

In his youth, he fell deeply in love with art and how it could convey all sorts of emotions and intent that could also be interpreted in vastly different ways from person to person. This led to him becoming deeply connected with his emotions and thoughtful of the messages and impressions he conveys to others. It also was the catalyst for two other things: having the kind of passion that makes you throw your all towards a specific thing (or person) that drives you with little compromise, and also a deep ire for anyone or thing that would come between him and his passions.

Yes, this does mean that he has a deep-seated hatred for his parents and the sociopolitical landscape of Tevinter as a result. His vengeful nature is what motivates him to join the Venatori and it is also what later motivates him to leave.

Despite these things, he's also just... ready for all of this to be over, despite being unsure of what he'll even do with himself when it is. Having lost his husband, not knowing what has become of his children, living with the knowledge that his work has led to the death of someone he loved, knowing that he can't go home no matter how the war ends - these all have taken a toll that have left him exhausted with life. He distracts himself from this by finding entertainment in ways that are anywhere from mundane to objectively terrible.

This means that as much as he might attempt to be catty or abrasive in a conversation, it's all a façade, because he actually doesn't handle being alone that well and enjoys being in the company of others. If he doesn't want to leave a conversation he'll search for ways to stay within it, be it flattery, words that incite argument, or otherwise. He's not above saying pretty words about something to get what he wants just as much as he isn't above stoking a fire.

The culmination of all of this is that, as long as you do not and have not seriously wronged him, Myron absolutely has the capacity to be a ride-or-die companion, platonically or otherwise.

Opinions & Affiliations

Venatori - Suffers from an unfortunate lack of unified vision: everyone seems to have a different ideal vision of Tevinter at its most glorious, which in hindsight is not great. Agrees with few, like Calpernia, whose ideal goal for Tevinter includes making slaves proper citizens upon making the Imperium strong again.

Corypheus - A vile manipulator that deserves whatever he gets. No wonder he became a darkspawn.

Tevinter Class System - He recognizes his privilege and what it has done to raise up his family's social status, which leaves him with a mix of feelings on it. Without such a thing, he likely may not have met his husband but he also abhors how his parents pushed him to give up his own passions for their/"his" benefit. By evaluating his parents behavior regarding the system, he's also looked at his own place compared to the lives of those in lower castes and has come to hate it all. On the one hand, the mageocracy means a better treatment for mages than those living in the southern countries, and on the other hand it means that many people who are likely far better than most mages running the Imperium are not given any sort of power over their lives or future. If the class system were not a factor, then perhaps also the "we're not homophobic, but..." element of bloodlines and breeding would cease to exist for the better.

Elves - He doesn't share the same prejudices as most towards them, because if the elves truly did teach the Neromenians magic then human mages should have a measure of gratitude and respect to elves for it. That being said he's happy to let people assume what they like only to be surprised later when they learn the truth.

Strengths & Weaknesses

+ Magic: Storm Tree, Entropy: Disorient Tree, and Immolate

+ Elvhenan Scholar: has gotten his grubby little hands on whatever ancient elf shit he could study over the past almost 30 years, which is to say definitely not everything but I imagine quite a bit

+ Elven Language: about as knowledgeable as one can be on it without fluency, due to the *gestures* circumstances of what remains of the language

+ Art: appreciation, analysis, & painting

~ Charming... enough, when he wants to be (which is only about half the time)

- He's not above saying inflammatory things to get a rise out of people and then leisurely enjoy wine and popcorn at what follows, which is not great when it comes to being a team player or forming positive relationships. (No one tell him about twitter /joke)

- Reputation: He's a mage from Tevinter, so without putting the work in to put on a different accent and a disguise then I don't see him being very welcome most places or situations.

- Old mage body: so soft, so tender, joint pain, weak slaps

Motivation

He wants Corypheus to get FUCKED. Just absolutely WASTED, GTA-style. Who better to do that then the little organization dedicated to just that?

Joking aside, his plan prior to the addition of helping in Tsenka's escape had been to find an appropriate pretense to take him outside of Tevinter's borders as much as possible before abandoning the Venatori altogether and going on the run to Kirkwall. Knowing his own physical limitations and looking at his options for how to get there, he knew that it likely wouldn't go well if he just tried to leave straight from Minrathous and attempt to disappear within the country's borders, hence the invention of an excuse that would take him to Starkhaven first. Expecting Riftwatch won't trust him fully on his word alone, he has stolen information to use as a bartering tool for their trust. Aiding Tsenka, which comes up partway through planning his own escape, seemed like a good way to sweeten the deal by showing he can at least be trusted even if only a little.

(I'm planning for him to be in the dungeons for the same amount of time as a rifter quarantine, so 2-3 weeks?)
